TREE REMOVAL
KNOWING WHEN IS KEY.
For most of us considering tree removal, the "better safe than sorry" adage can apply.

TREE TRIMMING (PRUNING)
What is pruning?
Pruning is a tree care and maintenance procedure that involves cutting and removing specific parts of a tree, such as dead or diseased branches, buds, and even roots. When done correctly, pruning has many different benefits. The reasons for trimming (pruning) trees or other woody vegetation will fall into at least one of the following categories:

CLEARANCE
TRIMMING LIMBS AWAY FROM STRUCTURES IS ESSENTIAL TO THE WELL-BEING OF ALMOST EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING AROUND THAT TREE. LIMBS GONE WILD CAN
- CAUSE DAMAGE TO HOME EXTERIOR
- PREVENT ADEQUATE SUNLIGHT TO HOME EXTERIOR, LEADING TO FUNGAL GROWTH AND DECAY OF STRUCTURE
- INTERFERE WITH OVERHEAD ELECTRICAL WIRES
- ENCOURAGE PESTS TO ENTER YOUR HOME
HEALTH
TREES ARE LIVING ORGANISMS WITH HEALTHCARE NEEDS. OPTIMAL TREE HEALTH IS ATTAINED THROUGH PROPER PRUNING METHODS WHICH ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING:
- INCREASE THE STRUCTURAL STABILITY
- ENCOURAGE GROWTH IN A MORE DESIRABLE DIRECTION (IE AWAY FROM A RESIDENCE)
- IMPROVE AIR FLOW
- ALLOW FOR SUNLIGHT PENETRATION
- EXPEDITE THE DRYING PROCESS, DISCOURAGING INSECT INFESTATION AND FUNGAL DISEASE
SAFETY
TREES CAN BE ENOURMOUS BURDENS WHEN THEIR GROWTH GOES UNCHECKED. COEXISTING WITH YOUR TREES CAN BE MADE SAFER BY
- REMOVING DEAD, DAMAGED OR HEAVY LIMBS WHICH COULD FALL OR DECREASE THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE TREE
- REMOVING LIMBS WHOSE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY HAS ALREADY BEEN COMPROMISED (VIA STORM, LACK OF MAINTENANCE, LIGHTNING, ETC.)
- REMOVING LIMBS FROM WALKWAYS AND AREAS WHICH ARE FREQUENTED (CARPORTS, POOLS, GAZEBOS, ETC.)
AESTHETICS & PRODUCTIVITY
A PROPERLY PRUNED TREE CAN PROVIDE CURB APPEAL, GREAT VIEWS, AND PRODUCTIVE YIELDS .
STUMP GRINDING
WHY GRIND THE STUMP?
Only the very creative are able to utilize the remaining stump after tree removal. But for the majority of us who will either see the stump as an unsightly blight on our yard, or an inconvenient obstacle, Dogwood Arboriculture, LLC, is here to help.
How to Perform Stump Grinding
Step One Mark any underground obstructions, as well as any phone and utility lines, found in the landscape. How to perform Stump Grinding
Step Two Using a mechanical stump grinder, grind the stump at least 6 to 10 inches below ground to remove the root system. How to Perform Stump Grinding
Step Three Remove all stump debris and add topsoil to fill the hole left behind or install new grass, plants or trees.
STILL stumped? We Can help.
In addition to being unsightly, there are several reasons it’s a good idea to grind the remaining stump.
- Stumps are perfect habitats for pests, such as bees, termites, wasps and carpenter ants.
- Removing the stump eliminates possible infectious tree diseases from spreading.
- Stump grinding also removes a potential trip hazard, particularly if the stump is located in a high-traffic area
- removes above-ground roots that can cause damage to sidewalks, driveways and building foundations.
- Grinding the stump does not remove the total root ball, but it does enable the woody remains to sit flush with the ground. Typically, soil and grass growing above will eliminate a growing system by forcing the remaining roots to die. Only the most determined of trees will regrow after the stump grinding process.
A note on stump grinding vs stump removal
While we are happy to grind your stumps, we do not specialize in removing stumps (roots and all). We typically only do so if the larger job at hand necessitates the removal.
